The Moment 02:52
Rain on my face I look up at the sky It runs down my face I close my eyes Then the moments gone… it's gone And I feel the night coming on. I sing with the waves The sound blends in the sky With a smile on my face I close my eyes Then the moments gone… it's gone And I feel the night coming on. Here in your arms I hear your sweet sigh Your hands, strong and warm I close my eyes When the moment’s on… it’s on But then the night turns to dawn… Turns to dawn. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900001 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

My Only 03:16
When I met you, you were laughing You were brighter than the sun You took me with you and we're sailing Through the years, you are the one. You whisper that you need me so You kiss me and the darkness goes I can't believe you're mine to hold And you’ll never leave me lonely. Now I've known you for a long time I've seen all you have become And you know where my heart lies Through the years, you are the one. You whisper that you need me so You kiss me and the darkness goes I can't believe you're mine to hold And I’ll never leave you lonely. And wherever time may find us In the woods or on the sea We'll be laughing together Hand in hand, that’s you and me. You whisper that you need me so You kiss me and the darkness goes I can't believe you're mine to hold And you’ll always be my only… ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900002 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

Alone in the night I hear you calling Out over the waves. The moan of the wind And the temperature falling On this far and lonely shore tonight. How can I wait for the morning. How can I wait ‘til the dawn. There's a storm in the air And the breakers forming And the cold night is so damn long. So I'm walking the rooms In the groaning darkness Alone and thinking of you. And if I close my eyes I can hear you calling I can feel your arms holding me tight. But through the windows And across the water The land has dropped out of sight. How can I wait for the morning. How can I wait ‘til the dawn. There's a storm in the air And the breakers forming And the cold night is so damn long Alone in the night Can you hear me calling From this far and lonely shore? ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900003 downloads: islandsublime.com more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

Know Me 05:02
I say you don't know me You say you can show me You are always in my head Reassure me of the life I've led. The signs are week and scattered Hold me now as if I mattered But don't tell me what will be I hear you talking to me, but I can't see. I need time to find my voice, but will I use it? Only I can make the choice, or lose it. Just when I think I know the meaning Life will hit me hard, I'm screaming But it’s just a state of mind Stepping slowly…moving blind. I need time to find my voice, but will I use it? Only I can make the choice, or lose it. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900004 downloads: islandsublime.com more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

The Novelist 03:22
Oh I should be a novelist, I’ve got time all on my own Empty islands I can roam, It’s the perfect place to cast the spell Of a story I might tell. Oh I wish to be a novelist Not great but only fair, Not popular but rare, And I’d like to set the story In this place I know so well. And if I should write a novel What time would I choose? Would they promenade and prance, and mince and dance? And clutter my mind with fancy dress And all show up for tea? But I should know What you reap is what you sow. Each character would bring some trouble and strife To my beautiful and ever-lovin’ solitary life No writing’s not for me. And I like to be alone, So if I wrote a story I’d people my plot then worry That they’d all move right in And invade my quiet home. And so I won’t write a novel But maybe one day I’ll get lonely enough I’ll write of a man and he’ll have a wife, But then they’d have kids and destroy my life. No writing’s not for me. Cause I should know What you reap is what you sow, Each character would bring some trouble and strife To my beautiful and ever lovin’ solitary life No writing’s not for me No writing’s not for me… ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900005 downloads: islandsublime.com more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

Mourning 03:21
Goodbye my heart Now you're gone Goodbye my heart All alone How can I say When I need you How can I face time without you Come back to me, Don't leave. The days flow on In my memory We're strong You're all I had All I knew How can I face time without you Come back to me Don't leave. Won't you save me from my dreams? Wake me now Free from this memory Tell me how. Time has past The ache is all that’s left I have my good days When I feel strong I have my bad dreams But they don't last long Time has passed. At last. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900006 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

Nine silhouettes sitting solid and low Drenched in the rain and the ice and the snow Always to windward of waters that flow Down through the long march of time Brunting the waves and the nor’easter’s blow Bare to the sky and the fathoms below Fronting the years as the centuries flow These little islands in time… these little islands sublime. Nine silhouettes sitting far out to sea Breakers to windward and combers alee Weathering time in good company Better than ever you’ll find Into the weather you come and you go In the darkest of nights there’s a sweep and a glow And a flash that resounds with a sailor’s “land ho!” And the voyages left behind The seasons will pass, and the night into day For all who will leave us, and all who will stay If time is an ocean, then life is a bay But it’s better than ever you’ll find… on these little islands in time These little islands sublime. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900007 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

Her sails are red like the dawn And her hull is as the grey sea On which she sails. She comes about and heads toward land For another glimpse of what could have been If she’d stayed awhile and fit right in Had she never, no not ever, chosen the wild sea. And as she draws near to land It reaches out to take her in And there to hold. And many people living there Are singing songs of deep despair As they struggle in a self-made snare And they’re never, no not ever, finding the wild sea. And there’s no fresh breeze upon this land Just choking smog and dying wind But there’s chains of gold. And silver dreams are near at hand If you’ll just work hard for the man And play it safe as best you can And don’t ever, no never, look toward the wild sea. Her sails are red like the dawn And her hull is as the grey sea On which she sails. She comes about and leaves the land Sheets out and fills her sail ‘Cause she knows there’s freedom in the gale And she’s never, no not ever, leaving the wild sea. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900008 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

The Romantic 03:49
Snow falling in a cold breeze Crow calls and colored leaves in old churchyards With willows weeping forever carved in the stone And what we see is ever leaving, Distant music and ancient evenings have passed on And the poets of romance are gone But I’ve got a haunted feeling, sets my emotions reeling And I try to write it down. Empty windows in crumbling walls And ivy-covered great-halls, and shadows Moving slowly along the edges and waft across the floor The scent of rose and old lavender And if I look fast I might see her… or nevermore. And just like the poets before I’ve got a haunted feeling, sets my emotions reeling And I try to write it down. And I think of old sailing ships, Heaving waves as the railing dips, and courage Through the long night and the beating of the gale And weathered lines on their faces And the vasty open spaces of their lives To see it all through their eyes I’ve got a haunted feeling that sets my emotions reeling And I try to write it down… try to write it down. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900009 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

You 03:01
I was looking for traces In far away places Searching for something that’s true But it always comes down to you. You took all my schemes And vagabond dreams And made all my wishes come true What I’d never asked you to do… I never needed much Except for your touch And maybe a lifetime or two When I was much younger With hopes dreams and wonder If fairy tales come true Was I always dreaming of you? When my world falls to pieces In some ol’ disaster You show up with the glue You make is shiny and new I never needed much Except for your touch And maybe a lifetime or two This song’s not a fable You’re strong, sure, and able My fairy tale come true My favorite story – that’s you You fill me with laughter Happy ever after But time is moving so fast If this isn’t too much to ask… I never needed much Except for your touch And all of this life – with you. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900010 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

The Unknown 04:05
At the corner of my sight, there you are again Standing on the porch, or the lawn in the wind A fleeting form in white or grey, Then you vanish with a sigh, you’re just a blink – in an unbelieving eye. Do you see me, do you know When you vanish, where you go? Do you climb the stairs and stay In your home of many rooms Is it always dark, or is it ever day? Did you leave here and fight to set the sail Climb the growing waves and face the coming gale? Did the halyard part and canvas start to rend, And in your time for one last thought, did you think – “this is the end”? Or did you slip and fall that icy ledge That you’re climbing now so surely? Did you notice not the waves that thundered at your back, Was there even time for one last thought before the world went black? And do you see me, do you know When you vanish, where you go? Do you climb the stairs and stay In your home of many rooms Is it always dark, or is it ever day? Or do you never get to know? Is there truth to what they say - That you carry on as if alive, not white or grey But like it’s any other… ordinary day? Through the empty halls I walk, Every room, in and out But in the mind there lurks the smallest doubt… And as I face another year, what makes me think – that I’m still here? Do you see me, do you know When you vanish, where you go? I climb the stairs and stay And in my home of many rooms It’s sometimes dark… and sometimes it is day. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900011 downloads: alexdesteiguer.com/downloads more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

The Story 04:37
It’s falling down It’s icy cold And I don’t want it to end. But you can’t hold rain When it’s on the run ‘Cause it won’t stop ‘til the end. Its music fades The clouds have passed And morning comes on again And all that changes is Changing once more And it will be ‘til the end. And it’s a simple story, it happens all the time, And I will listen. Listen. The tide comes in The shallows fill And water’s singing its song. It’s all the same and it’s Constant change And it’s quick, but it’s long. Now the day grows old And the air is chill And I don’t want it to end. But you can’t hold time When it’s on the run So I’ll just stay ‘til the end. And it’s a simple story, it happens all the time, And I will listen, I will listen. Listen. There you are And here I stand Just like time and the tide, ‘Cause there’s no waiting and There’s no regret When you’re there by my side. And it’s a simple story that happened in my time, And I did listen, I did listen. ──────────────────────────────── ISRC: QZGJ21900012 downloads: islandsublime.com more about Alex: alexdesteiguer.com support: paypal.me/funds2alex

about

For over two decades, Alex de Steiguer has been a winter caretaker on a group of freezing, windswept, lonely islands lying seven miles off the New England coast. There, alone, she composed 13 songs that reflect not only her unique island life, but also rich, resonant insights. Accompanied by talented musician friends with sweet strains of acoustic and slide guitar, piano, violin, and more, we hope you'll enjoy these songs from across a seven mile sea.

BONUS TRACK: For those downloading the full album, and for all the generous Kickstarter supporters that made this all happen... a 13th song will be included... Alex un-plugged and alone, recorded on Star Island during a westerly gale that raged for days. This raw, solo version is untouched since the frigid, wind-blown day it was first laid down. Titled "Whistling Wind", it's a simple reflection on how mystery may be found even within the welcome familiarity of the cycles of the seasons. Listen for the sound of the wind rattling the windows.

Enjoy this with all my gratitude for the generous support you've offered which has opened a whole new world to me. My eternal and sincerest thanks!
